HC Deb 01 December 1992 vol 215 c93W
Mr. Llwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what research has been conducted by his Department into the effect of the development of out of town shopping facilities on the level of car journeys undertaken.

Mr. Kenneth Carlisle

There are two research projects currently in hand:(a) a series of traffic surveys on trip attraction rates at different sites for a variety of land uses, including retailing, in London and the south-east; and (b) a joint DOE/DOT commission to investigate the relationship between land use and trip generation, and identify measures to reduce the need to travel.
