To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will seek to ensure in the current negotiations on the new Structural Fund Regulations, that(a) all projects and programmes comply with EC environmental legislation and policy and (b) all applications for funding submitted to the European Commission contain adequate and appropriate environmental information.

[holding answer 1 April 1993]: The Government fully agree that structural funds projects and programmes should comply with EC environmental legislation and policies. The Government agree also therefore that, where appropriate, applications for funding should contain adequate environmental information. Full account must be taken account of these concerns during the review of the structural funds regulations.
