HC Deb 22 October 1991 vol 196 c544W
Mr. Kilfedder

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many speech therapists are registered in Northern Ireland; and if he will give additional funding to provide a greater number of speech therapists in the Province.

Mr. Hanley

At 30 September there were 188–168.83 whole-time equivalent—speech therapists employed in the Northern Ireland health and personal social services, all of whom were registered.

This year the Government are spending £1,166 million on health and personal social services in Northern Ireland, an increase of £115 million on 1990–91 expenditure. It is a matter for the health and social services boards to determine their priorities in the provision and development of services.
