HC Deb 22 October 1991 vol 196 c578W
Mr. Barry Field

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security when he last reviewed the rules governing seasonal unemployment.

Miss Widdecombe

Following a review of the unemployment benefit scheme in 1988 the legislative provisions preventing the payment of benefit to seasonal workers during their off-season were repealed by the Social Security Act 1989. The Act also introduced the requirement for unemployed claimants to show that they are actively seeking work as a basic condition of entitlement to benefit.
