HC Deb 22 October 1991 vol 196 c555W
Mr. Martyn Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will estimate the number of consultants in rehabilitation medicine in post in Northern Ireland in December(a) 1980, (b) 1985, (c) 1990 and (d) July 1991, respectively.

Mr. Hanley

[holding answer 18 October 1991]: Detailed information concerning medical staff in post is categorised by speciality, rehabilitation medicine is not recognised as a separate specialty for this purpose. In September 1990, however, the latest date for which figures are available centrally, there were five—4.55 whole-time equivalent—consultants within the rheumatology and rehabilitation specialty some of whom would have been engaged in rehabilitation medicine. The equivalent figure for both September 1980 and September 1985 was three.
