Mr. Maxton

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what has been the total numbers of inward investment jobs secured in Scotland in each year since 1971; and what percentage of the United Kingdom total it represents in each year.

The information required is available only from 1979 onwards and is based on information provided by the companies notified to my Department's Invest in Britain Bureau at the time of the announcement of the decision to invest and takes no account of subsequent developments. It is estimated that the numbers of inward investment jobs secured in Scotland each year since 1979, and percentages they represent of the United Kingdom total, are as follows:
