§ The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Social Security (Lord Henley)The latest available figures are(a) 1,827,878 children under 16 are dependent on income support in England and Wales. (b) 216,957 children under 16 are dependent on income support in Scotland. These figures represent (a) 18 per cent. of the under 16 population of England and Wales and (b) 21 per cent. of the under 16 population of Scotland.
