HC Deb 22 October 1991 vol 196 c629W
Mr. Ward

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what steps Her Majesty's Government are taking to prevent discrimination against job applicants by reason of their age alone.

Mr. Jackson

Age discrimination against job applicants is short-sighted and wasteful. My colleagues and I are taking every opportunity to emphasise that employers should make more effective use of the valuable qualities of skill, experience and reliability that older people can bring to a job. We shall continue to promote good practice in the recruitment and employment of older workers.
