HC Deb 21 October 1991 vol 196 cc399-400W
Mr. McMaster

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has any plans to issue guidelines to local authorities to promote the woodland grant scheme; what is the planned budget of the scheme in the current and next financial years; how many applications have been received from within Renfrew district; how many of these have been approved; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

The Forestry Commission has the responsibility for promoting the woodland grant scheme; it consults local authorities about planting proposals in their area.

The budget in 1991–92 for grants under the woodland grant scheme is £17.6 million, and the estimate for 1992–93 is £20.4 million.

The Forestry Commission has received 23 applications in Renfrew district, of which 17 have so far been approved.
