To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will provide a list of all contractors and sub-contractors working on contracts related to the Trident programme that have ceased trading over the last two years; and which contracts they were working on.

Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will take steps to ensure that the problems that have been encountered with the shore construction programme at Royal Navy armaments depot, Coulport and Clyde submarine base Faslane do not occur with the ongoing Trident-related construction programme at Rosyth.

Mr. Kenneth Carlisle

Where appropriate, lessons learned from Coulport and Faslane are being taken into account at Rosyth.

Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the overall progress of the Trident shore construction programme.

Mr. Kenneth Carlisle

Significant progress continues to be made. A number of facilities at Coulport and Faslane have already been completed and handed over to the Ministry of Defence.

Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence when he expects to place the order with Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering Ltd to construct the fourth Trident submarine.

Mr. Kenneth Carlisle

We expect to receive the tender for the fourth Vanguard class submarine very shortly, and plan to place the order following the successful completion of negotiations with the company.
