HC Deb 21 October 1991 vol 196 c371W
Mr. Michael

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will provide a list of hospitals caring for mentally handicapped or mentally ill patients that have closed in Wales over the last five years.

Mr. Nicholas Bennett

[holding answer 14 October 1991]: Throughout Wales, inappropriate services for those with mental handicaps or mental illnesses are progressively being phased out as new patterns of more local and accessible services are developed under our all-Wales strategies. Since September 1986 the Allt-y-Mynydd mental handicap unit in East Dyfed and a unit for those with mental handicap at County hospital, Gwent have closed.
