HC Deb 21 October 1991 vol 196 cc355-6W
Mr. Pawsey

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the total budget administered by local education authorities in England; and what is the figure per pupil.

Mr. Fallon

In 1989–90, the latest year for which information on actual expenditure is available, local education authorities' total net recurrent expenditure on education was some £15,800 million. Of this, some £10,000 million related to school-based spending in nursery, primary and secondary schools, which represents an average of some £1,485 per pupil in those schools.
