§ Mr. FlynnTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the issues discussed and decisions taken at the European Transport Council in Luxembourg on 7 October; and if he will list the occasions over the past year where the Council has discussed the implications for global warming of transport policies.
§ Mr. McLoughlinI refer the hon. Gentleman to the answer given by my right hon. and learned Friend on Wednesday 16 October in which a full statement was made on the outcome of the Luxembourg Transport Council held on 7 October.
The Transport Council has not specifically discussed global warming. The EC Commission has only recently come forward with ideas for controlling CO2 and further ideas relating specifically to transport are expected by the end of the year.
These are all likely to be discussed at a joint Environment/Energy Council on 10 December. We are working closely with the Departments of the Environment and Energy in preparing for this meeting.
