Mr. Harry Greenway

To ask the Secretary of State for Health upon what criteria he has approved self-governing status for Ealing hospital; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

The criteria for the establishment of Ealing hospital as an NHS trust, as for all applicants, werethat it would deliver tangible benefits to patients and improvements in the quality of its services; that it had effective leadership and management: that key professional staff were involved in management; that it was financially viable.
