HL Deb 21 October 1991 vol 531 c126WA
Lord Denning

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Further to the Answer of Baroness Blatch on 10th July 1991 (H.L. Deb. 10th July, Col. WA 91), whether the department's lawyers give advice and guidance to inspectors on legal matters, arising in specific cases that the inspectors are about to hear, or are hearing, or have heard and afterwards in preparing the decision letter, and in drafting it before it is sent out to those concerned.

Baroness Blatch

Departmental lawyers give advice when requested to do so by the department's administrators. Any legal questions raised by an inspector at any time, in relation to a specific case, or otherwise, would come to a departmental lawyer from the administrative division responsible.
