To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the annual cost of community health councils.

Mr. Dorrell

The summarised accounts of regional and district health authorities in England for 1989–90 record expenditure on community health councils totalling £8,603,170. This represents an increase of 7.5 per cent. over the previous year.
