§ Mr. KirkwoodTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will undertake a design study for a major improvement scheme on the A7 trunk road at Colterscleuch south of Hawick for implementation in advance of the completion of the current studies on the A7 route action plan.
§ Lord James Douglas-HamiltonThere are several overtaking schemes on the A7 south of Hawick which have been identified as candidates for early implementation. Consideration is presently being given as to which is the most appropriate choice in terms of value for money, location, and local acceptability to take forward to the next design stage. I will write to the hon. Member when that decision is reached.
