To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the forecast of investment intentions for 1991 from the Central Statistical Office's latest investment intentions survey.

Mr. Mellor

The spring 1991 survey of manufacturers' investment intentions suggested a 14 per cent. fall in investment in 1991 from historically high levels in 1989 and 1990, followed by a flattening out in 1992.
