HC Deb 15 October 1991 vol 196 c147W
Sir Richard Body

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will give the identity of any slaughterhouse in the United Kingdom which has lost its licence to export to the rest of the EC on the grounds of hygiene.

Mr. Maclean

No. It would not be appropriate to disclose the names of individual businesses. A slaughterhouse's EC export approval can be temporarily withdrawn in cases where hygiene problems can be rectified in a short period of time, often as little as two or three days. Disclosure of information under these circumstances could lead to lasting and unwarranted damage to a plant's commercial status.
