§ 25. Mr. WinnickTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a further statement on the three seriously injured Grenadier Guardsmen who are claiming compensation.
§ Mr. Archie HamiltonThe hon. Member will be aware that, following discussions with solicitors representing the three guardsmen, the Ministry of Defence agreed to make an out-of-court settlement. As is usual with this type of agreement, the payments of £105,000 to each of the men have been made without admission of liability.
The settlement was based on legal advice and I believe it to be both fair and reasonable, having taken into account all aspects of the case.
