Mr. Robin Cook

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many patients had been on the waiting list for 24 months or longer at (i) September 1987, (ii) 30 September 1988, (iii) 30 September 1989, (iv) 30 March 1990 and (v) 30 September 1990 in total and for each specialty.

The information requested is given in the table. Figures have been added for March 1991. Between September 1987 and March 1991, the number of patients waiting over two years for in-patient and day case treatment reduced by 44 per cent. Between 1987–88 and 1989–90 the number of in-patients and day cases treated increased by 6 per cent.
