HC Deb 14 October 1991 vol 196 c11W
Mr. John Marshall

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many local authorities in Greater London have put their refuse collection operations out to tender; how many of these contracts have been won by outside contractors; and what are the total estimated changes in costs from compulsory competitive tendering.

Mr. Key

This information is not held centrally, but research carried out for the Department by the Institute of Local Government Studies indicates that authorities involved in their study made savings of the order of 8 per cent. following competition for their refuse collection work.
