To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prisoners attempted to commit suicide while in police custody in Wales(a) in each of the past five years and (b) in the current year.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prisoners attempted to commit suicide in each month of 1990 and 1991 to date(a) in police custody in each police authority area in Wales and (b) in each prison or unit of Prison Department accommodation in Wales.

Information about attempted suicides in police custody is not recorded centrally by the Home Office or by police forces in Wales. Information relating to prison establishments is shown in the table.

Questions relating to secure accommodation in Wales are a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales.
