§ Mr. MuddTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he has yet considered the manpower implications of the report of Her Majesty's inspectorate of constabulary on Devon and Cornwall police; if he accepts the inspector's findings; and if he will make a statement on the meeting of force manpower needs.
§ Mr. Peter LloydHer Majesty's inspector reported that the force had identified a need for an additional 70 officers to meet increased demand. His report endorsed the manpower plans of the chief constable and the police authority, and commended the force's record on civilianisation.
We have approved with effect from 1 October 1991 an increase of 15 police posts in the establishment of the force. The police authority has made an application for 70 additional police posts in 1992–93. This is being carefully considered with the advice of Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Constabulary and in the context of competing demands from other forces.
