Member for Carshalton and Wallington (Mr. Forman) of 22 July,Official Report, columns 333–36, on a bus strategy for London, what further legislation for what specific purposes he intends to bring before Parliament to execute the policy there described.
§ Mr. FreemanThe Government intend to introduce legislation as soon as possible in a new Parliament. Primary legislation is required to give effect to many of the proposals set out in the answer to which the hon. Member refers. Specifically, it would be required in order to create the new London bus executive, to make consequential amendments to the powers and duties of London Regional Transport, to provide for the continuance of a London-wide concessionary travel scheme and to create a right of entry into travelcard schemes. The detail of the legislation will not be finalised until closer to the point at which the Bill is introduced, and the Government will continue their discussions with interested parties until then.
