HC Deb 27 November 1991 vol 199 cc553-4W
Mr. Home Robertson

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will erect large yellow-backed signs indicating that the Tranent-Macmerry bypass is a single carriageway road, similar to the signs on the single carriageway sections of the road between Dundee and Aberdeen.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

Following the tragic accident on the single carriageway section of the A1 Tranent bypass in July, I asked the A1 steering group to consider ways of increasing driver awareness of the transitions from dual to single carriageways on the A1.

One of the measures proposed by the steering group was to erect large yellow backed signs as part of a package of measures associated with Bankton roundabout. This was approved in September with a works start programmed for February 1992.
