To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what plans there are to update the eastern dual carriageway to full motorway standards between the M27 and Eastern docks, Southampton; and what is the timescale.

[holding answer 25 November 1991]: The approach roads from the M27 and M271 to the Eastern docks are roads for which Hampshire county council is the highway authority. I understand that the county council is planning some improvements but that these do not involve any upgrading to motorway standards.
