To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the most recent information he has on the destination of people who leave Action for Community Employment and the job training programme; how many leavers(a) got jobs (b) became unemployed or (c) went on to further training; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Needham

The most recent survey of the destinations of participants leaving the Action for Community Employment—ACE—programme was carried out for the year 1990. The survey was based upon a sample of 1,000 ACE leavers and revealed that: 31.4 per cent. of participants found work; 63.7 per cent. of participants became unemployed; and 4.9 per cent. of participants took up further training or entered further education.

The most recent information available on the destination of participants leaving the job training programme is for the period 1 April 1990 to 31 March 1991 and is as follows:
