HC Deb 25 November 1991 vol 199 c382W
Mr. Dewar

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what percentage of the recurrent grant distributed by the Universities Funding Council or the University Grants Committee went to Scottish universities in each of the last five years.

Mr. Alan Howarth

The Scottish universities' share of the recurrent grant allocated to GB universities by the University Grants Committee or the Universities Funding Council was 15 per cent. in academic years 1986–87, 1987–88 and 1988–89 and 14 per cent. in 1989–90 and 1990–91. These percentages are based on the figures issued by the UGC or the UFC in their recurrent grant announcement letters before the beginning of the years in question.

Mr. Dewar

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will give the percentage of students at Scottish universities who are domiciled in England and abroad, respectively, for the latest year for which figures are available.

Mr. Alan Howarth

In the academic 1990–91, 19.2 per cent. and 13.8 per cent. of students attending Scottish universities were domiciled in England or overseas.
