HC Deb 25 November 1991 vol 199 c371W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish a table showing the average United Kingdom rate of economic growth since 1973 with comparable data for the previous decade, together with figures for manufacturing output, manufacturing employment and unemployment, and the levels of the real exchange rate in terms of relative export prices.

Mr. Mellor

Most of the information can be derived from data available on the Central Statistical Office's database as series CAOP—gross domestic product at constant factor cost; DVIS—index of the output of manufacturing industries; DYAW—employees in manufacturing industries; BCJD—United Kingdom unemployment total, seasonally adjusted; and BQHM—relative export unit value index.

Data in respect of manufacturing employment and unemployment are available from this source only from 1971. Data for earlier years are available in "British Labour Statistics Historical Abstract 1886–1968" and in "British Labour Statistics Year Books" for 1969 and 1970.

Copies of these publications are available in the Library of the House.
