HC Deb 22 November 1991 vol 199 c343W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he has any proposals for legislation under which all public limited companies will have to publish the level of their discharges and emissions into rivers and air.

Mr. Leigh

No. Under the Water Act 1989, monitoring data obtained from consented discharges are already entered on to public registers maintained by the National Rivers Authority. Similarly, under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, monitoring data on processes authorised under the integrated pollution control and local authority air pollution control systems are entered on to public registers maintained by Her Majesty's inspectorate of pollution and by local authorities.
