To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is the planned percentage increase in the capability of 3rd (UK) Division over the next four years.

Mr. Hamilton

As outlined in "Britain's Army for the 90s" (Cm. 1595), 3rd (UK) Division will be a new formation comprising two mechanised brigades and 5th Airborne Brigade. There is therefore no basis for a comparison with any of the existing four divisions of BAOR.
