HC Deb 21 November 1991 vol 199 c274W
Mr. Frank Cook

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will increase his efforts to ensure civil service relocation is speeded up; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Gillian Shephard

The Government's relocation policy is not centrally directed. Departments are required to review the location of their work regularly and systematically in accordance with clear guidelines. Between 1988 and June 1990 Departments identified nearly 23,000 posts for location or relocation away from the south-east. I hope to update the House shortly on the progress made by the end of June 1991.
