17. Mr. Alan W. Williams

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the MacSharry proposals for reform of the common agricultural policy outlining the latest position in their consideration by the Council of Ministers.

Mr. Gummer

I refer the hon. Members to the reply I gave yesterday to my hon. Friend the Member for Norfolk, North-West (Mr. Bellingham).

26. Mrs Currie

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what progress is being made in reducing subsidies to agriculture in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Curry

I refer to the reply I have just given to the hon. Members for Sheffield, Attercliffe (Sir P. Duffy) and for Carmarthen (Mr. Williams). The Government aim to secure, through reform of the common agricultural policy, lower levels of agricultural support throughout the European Community.
