To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is his policy on the proposal that the Luftwaffe should lead the air component of NATO's rapid reaction corps.

At their defence planning committee meeting last May, NATO Defence Ministers agreed, in principle, to the formation of air reaction forces. Since then, work has continued in NATO to determine the precise size and structure of such forces, including the command and control arrangements, which must be efficient and militarily effective.
