Mr. Trimble

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, further to his answer of 11 November,Official Report, column 385, on CRISP—the community regeneration initiative special project—if he will list the precise criteria for determining which towns and villages are in areas of particular disadvantage, state when these criteria were published and indicate what steps are taken to draw them to the attention of interested parties.

Mr. Needham

This is a matter primarily for the International Fund for Ireland. I have asked the chairman of the fund to write to the hon. Gentleman and will place a copy of his letter in the Library.

Mr. Trimble

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, further to his answer of 11 November,Official Report, column 385, if he will list with respect to each town every payment made under the CRISP programme indicating in each case the recipient and the purpose of the payment.

Mr. Needham

The information requested could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.

Mr. Trimble

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, further to his answer of 11 November,Official Report, column 385, if he will list the specified areas of Belfast and Londonderry for which urban development grant is available and give the precise criteria for the selection of those areas.

Mr. Needham

Applications may, in principle, be accepted throughout the Belfast city council area. Because demand has exceeded resources for some time, funds are now focused on areas of greatest need. Currently these areas are those covered by the Belfast action teams, including small parts of some team areas which extend beyond the city council boundary. Outside action team areas, but within the Belfast city boundary, only exceptional projects in terms of urban regeneration are considered for grant.

In Londonderry, urban development grant is available for approved projects in the main commercial and industrial sectors of the city within the area encompassed by the former county borough of Londonderry, and within the Londonderry enterprise zone at Campsie and Springtown.
