§ Ms. WalleyTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department which cities are eligible to apply for specific crime prevention projects funding under(a) the safer cities programme and (b) urban programme schemes; and if he will list those cities in the last 18 months which have made successful bids for specific crime prevention projects.
§ Mr. John PattenThe 19 areas where the Home Office has established safer cities projects, listed in the table, are eligible for Home Office grants for specific crime prevention schemes. All have received funding in the last 18 months except Derby, Leicester and Middlesbrough, where projects began operation only this autumn.
Fifty-seven designated districts, also listed in the table, are eligible to apply for Department of the Environment funding under the urban programme. Those marked with an asterisk have included crime prevention projects in their programme for 1991–92, the only period for which I understand this information is available.
