§ Mr. Campbell-SavoursTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish the contents of letters written by M. M. Cassie of the Scottish Department of Agriculture and Fisheries on the question of crab apples.
§ Mr. Michael ForsythOnly one letter was written by the official concerned on this subject. In April 1990 the Scottish Office Agriculture and Fisheries Department was notified by the United States Environmental Protection Agency of the proposed revocation of tolerances for residues of the fungicide captan on various fruits including crab apples because the use of captan on these fruits had been cancelled. Miss Cassie wrote to the agency seeking confirmation that the United States definition of crab apples was specific to that crop and did not include any variety or ordinary eating apples. The agency duly confirmed that the use of captan on ordinary eating apples was not being cancelled or the tolerances revoked.
