To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many beds are available for the care of the elderly in Skye; and what is their occupancy.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

In the year ended 30 June 1991 there were, on average, 28 staffed national health service beds available for the care of the elderly. The occupancy rate was 60.7 per cent.
