HC Deb 19 November 1991 vol 199 cc126-7W
Mr. Gareth Wardell

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what research has been carried out by his Department into the effect of the fluoridation of drinking water on the level of morbidity in human populations.

Mr. Dorrell

A number of studies have been undertaken on behalf of the Department into major causes of morbidity in relation to fluoridation of drinking water.

These include tuberculosis, cancers, cardiovascular diseases, pulmonary diseases, peptic ulcers, renal disease, congenital malformations, thyroid disease and musculo-skeletal disorders. These, and other authoritative reviews of the extensive worldwide scientific literature, have found no evidence to show that fluoridation has any adverse effect on health.
