To ask the Secretary of State for Defence when he next plans to meet the Secretary-General of the Western European Union to discuss the joint British-Italian proposals for European defence co-operation.

I attended a meeting of the WEU Ministerial Council in Bonn yesterday, at which a range of issues concerning the future role of the WEU were discussed.
