School Swimming Facilities

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science when he expects the survey of school swimming facilities to be completed.

Schools and local education authorities have been asked to complete and return survey questionnaires to the Department by 22 November 1991. The survey is intended to provide a picture of the access schools have to swimming pools; the number of pools on school sites; the recurrent costs associated with swimming provision; and the cost of building learner pools where necessary. This information will help determine when a requirement can be introduced for all primary age pupils to be taught to swim.
