HC Deb 18 November 1991 vol 199 c31W
Mr. Rowlands

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many homes have been repossessed as a result of mortgage payment defaults(a) in Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney, (b) in Mid Glamorgan and (c) in Wales in 1990 and the latest number known for 1991.

Mr. Nicholas Bennett

Only the total numbers of warrants of repossession are available; those relating specifically to mortgages are not collected separately. However, separate data are available on the number of repossession orders made following mortgage actions. The numbers given in the table relate to totals of orders made through courts within an area and as such do not correspond directly to the number of homes within that area on which orders were made.

Repossession orders made following mortgage actions1
1990 1991 (January to September)
Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney2 253 315
Mid Glamorgan 1,170 1,203
Wales 4,962 5,388
1 Figures include suspended orders, whereby the mortgagees are given an opportunity to clear their debts.
2 Total of orders made through the courts of Bargoed, Caerphilly and Merthyr Tydfil.
