HC Deb 18 November 1991 vol 199 cc65-8W
Mr. Straw

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will publish a table listing(a) the amounts of capital allocations for county and voluntary controlled schools for 1992–93 for which each local education authority in England has bid, (b) the amount of capital grant for voluntary aided schools in their area which each local education authority has asked of his Department and (c) the totals of (a) and (b) for each local education authority and with totals in respect of (a), (b) and (c) for England, and for each region.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The information requested is provided in the table. The figures are taken from the capital plans for 1992–93 submitted by each local education authority to the Department. It must be borne in mind that, in most cases, the bidding process produces figures which far exceed any sum which the authorities concerned seriously expect to receive or need to spend in the year in question.

Notes:

1 The figures should be treated with caution. They represent the initial bids made by local education authorities and take no account of subsequent amendments to those bids.

2 All figures are in thousands.

3 The bids for capital allocations at voluntary aided (VA) and special agreement (SA) schools do not include bids for Minor Improvement Projects. Grants for minor works will be allocated to LEAs by formula.

4 VA and SA schools bids marked "*" include an estimate for committed projects (ie based on 1991–92 submissions) since LEA bids for such expenditure have not yet been received.
