HC Deb 15 November 1991 vol 198 c706W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he has any plans to introduce legislation to require the banks in their annual reports to reveal the highest interest rate charged by them during the year.

Mr. Maples

No. The rate of interest charged by banks depends on the particular circumstances in which funds are being lent and I do not think it would be appropriate to require banks to publish such figures.
