§ Mr. David EvansTo ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he intends to ask the Monopolies and Mergers Commission to undertake an efficiency review of a publicly owned body under section 11 of the Competition Act 1980.
§ Mr. RedwoodAs part of its regular programme of efficiency studies of publicly owned bodies, the commission has been asked to look into the service provided by the Commonwealth Development Corporation. The formal reference was made today. It asks the MMC to look at whether, in carrying out its functions under the relevant legislation, the CDC could improve efficiency, reduce costs and improve the quality of service provided.
The commission will report in five months.
