Subject to the approval of Parliament, the Sports Council's grant in aid next year will be £48.7 million, over £2 million up on this year.
The newly established Foundation for Sport and the Arts will draw about £20 million a year from the further cut of 2.5 per cent. in pool betting duty included in this year's Finance Act, and about £40 million a year from the pools themselves. Some two-thirds will be used for athletic sports or athletic games. The Football Trust has also benefited from a cut in the pool betting duty by an additional £20 million since 1990.
Private sector sponsors provide some £200 million per annum for sport.
