HC Deb 12 November 1991 vol 198 c492W
21. Mr. Robert G. Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will make a statement on the progress of the Government's policies for parental choice in central London.

Mr. Fallon

Parents in central London—like parents everywhere else in the country—have had the right since 1980 to choose which school their child should attend—provided places are available. More recently they have benefited from both the introduction of more open enrolment and the option of pursuing grant-maintained status for their children's school. And they will benefit in the same way as other parents from the proposals in our parents charter.
