HL Deb 12 November 1991 vol 532 c27WA
Lord Mason of Barnsley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have statistics illustrating the proportion of British Coal employees who are now members of the Union of Democratic Mineworkers, as opposed to the National Union of Mineworkers.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Employment (Viscount Ullswater)

Official statistics are not available for the proportion of British Coal employees who are members of the Union of Democratic Mineworkers or the National Union of Mineworkers. However, latest figures for the membership of these unions show that at the end of 1990 there were 17,994 members in the Union of Democratic Mineworkers and 116,252 members of the National Union of Mineworkers.
