Mr. Mellor

Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will publish a table showing the Japanese and United Kingdom figures for the increase in consumer prices and export unit values for manufactures between 1979 and 1990 together with those of France, Germany, Italy and the USA.

Mr. Mellor

The information requested can be obtained from data published in "OECD, Main Economic Indicators" for consumer prices, and in "Monthly Review of External Trade Statistics", its annual supplement and "International Financial Statistics" for export unit values, copies of which are in the Library.

Mr. Austin Mitchell

The CSO's published input-output tables for that year and the two earlier years' show the imported and domestic content of manufactures. These Publications are available in the Library.1"Input-Output Tables for the United Kingdom, 1985" table four, "Input-Output Tables for the United Kingdom, 1979" table K, "Input-Output Tables for the United Kingdom, 1970" table K.

Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what proportion of United Kingdom imports of manufactures are re-exported (i) in the same form and (ii) after further processing in the United Kingdom: and what the corresponding figures were in 1970, 1979 and 1984.
